Angular resolution of the search for anisotropic stochastic gravitational-wave background with terrestrial gravitational-wave detectors

We consider an anisotropic search for the stochastic gravitational-wave (GW) background by decomposing sky into its spherical harmonics components. Previous analyses have used diffraction limit to define highest-order components in this search. investigate whether angular resolution of is indeed diffraction-limited testing our ability detect and localize simulated GW signals. show that while using low-order modes optimal initially detecting sources, detected sources can be better localized with higher-order than expected based on argument. Additionally, we discuss how recover affected number detectors network, frequency range over which performed, method covariance matrix skymap regularized.
